Green River Formation

The Eocene a geological period that lasted from about 56 to 33.9 million years ago. The Green River Formation is from this era, it records the sedimentation in a group of intermountain lakes in three basins along the present-day Green River in ColoradoWyoming, and Utah. The sediments are deposited in very fine layers. We visited a site near Kemmerer. It is very easy to split the rocks and find yourself some nice fossils.
